Sang Ae Kim, Flutist

 

Sang Ae Kim, Solo Flutist of Korea’s Incheon Philharmonic since 2012, enjoys a multi-faceted career as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, teacher, and orchestral leader.

Ms. Kim has performed on international stages as a soloist with the Paris Massy Orchestra in France, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra in New York, and Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra in Korea.  As a recitalist and chamber musician, she has been featured in the Kumho Young Artist Solo Recital Series in Korea, Saarburger Serenaden International Music Festival in Germany, and the Arona Music Festival in Spain.

Winner of Korea’s Promising Young Artist Award, Ms. Kim first came to international attention as the winner of the First Prizes in the Osaka International Music Competition and Ewha Kyunghyang Music Competition in her native South Korea. Upon arriving in America in 2007, she continued to win numerous competitions including First Prizes in the Mid-Atlantic Young Artist Competition, Baltimore Music Club Competition, and Boston University’s Concerto Competition. She has also received top awards in the Alexander & Buono International Competition, Central Ohio Flute Association Young Artist Competition, the Busan MBC Music Competition and the Mid-South Flute Society Young Artist Competition.

A passionate teacher, Ms. Kim is on the faculty of the Sungshin Women’s University, Yewon School, and Seoul Arts High School. Formerly, she was on the faculty at Korea National University of Arts.

Sang Ae Kim earned her Bachelor of Music Degree at Korea National University of Arts under the instruction of Zvelev Valentin, and the Master of Music Degree and Graduate Performance Diploma at Peabody Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Marina Piccinini.  She is a DMA candidate at Boston University in Elizabeth Ostling’s studio. Her private teachers include Hye Kyung Lee, Soo-Kyung Park and Keith Underwood.
